Amsterdam office

Amsterdam office is a key node in our European operations. Here we have Reaktorians from all over the world - right now we are a team of twenty nationalities - and we are always on the lookout for number twenty-one!

At Reaktor, you will solve meaningful and challenging tasks with a friendly team of the brightest minds. We hire a personality, not a pair of hands. Here you’re free to express your personal quirkiness, explore different domains and technologies, and shape your own development path.

Amsterdam Office Culture

We have a 5-star Glassdoor rating. The main reason? In everything we do, we put people first.

We are relatively small in scale (50 people and growing). But we are backed up in every sense of the word by Reaktor at large. This allows us to form meaningful connections with every team member and ensure that everyone has a say in how the company works.

Reaktor is known for its flat hierarchy and the Amsterdam office is the first one to test a new form of management: putting a Leadership team in charge instead of a single CEO.

Let's have fun

We love to spend time together! To keep the Reaktorian community blooming, we organize Thursday dinners and hang out at the office playing video games and ravaging the well-stocked beer fridge on Fridays.

You can participate in a podcast club, organize a cycling trip, or join a group to dive deeper into code with friends. There are tons of Slack hobby channels for you to choose from or suggest new ones.

Also, we have a company boat ready to take you around the Amsterdam canals. We can even teach you to skipper it as well!

Our office

Amsterdam office

We call our Amsterdam office a “Nordic dream house”. You’ll get the ultimate Amsterdam experience by working in a three-story canalside house with a 24-foot office boat by its side. Expect a refuge away from home, a healthy dose of Finnish tradition, and spaces to let ideas simmer.

Perks of Reaktor Amsterdam

We offer everything you’d expect of a tech company, but what really makes us different is our culture — and that isn’t so easy to put on paper. Nevertheless, we’ll give it a try:

Flexibility

Flexibility in working hours and choosing your projects and technologies.

Autonomy

Amsterdam office is led by a Leadership Team instead of a single CEO. At the heart of our culture is making sure you always have a say.

Growth

Make use of an unlimited learning budget and participate in our global training and communities of practice.

Freedom

Shape the career path you like: try on different roles as you grow at Reaktor.

People

You’ll be working with top minds who are happy to connect within and beyond working hours.

Tools

If it can make work faster and easier, it’s on your table. You’ll receive the latest phone and laptop models as well as the opportunity to choose any tool you need to do your best work.

The necessary stuff

To make your life comfortable, we provide health insurance, a pension plan, phone subscription, travel costs, and extended vacation days.

The cool stuff

The company boat, office trips and parties (when we are back to the new normal).

What are we working on?

We work in close co-operation with top clients to help them succeed in technology. For that reason, you’ll be spending time between the client’s premises and our beautiful office in Jordaan once we are back in person. Some of our projects are carried out across offices, so part of your team might be based in Tokyo, Helsinki, or New York.

Growth opportunities

There is no one way to build a career at Reaktor because we don’t believe in titles and rigid management systems. Reaktorians enjoy working with juniors and seniors on the shiny and dirty bits of the codebase alike.

However, there are multiple ways you can grow. In your everyday work you’ll be surrounded by brilliant minds happy to share their knowledge. You can regularly take part in global communities of practice where we discuss our latest findings and challenges. Also, we trust you to choose whichever conference / course / book you see that’s relevant for your development.

Who you'll be working with

We are looking for a Reaktorian spirit which exists beyond tech requirements. We believe in hiring a complete person, a colleague that is great to spend time with and curious about learning new things. We are eager to hear what makes your eyes light up: some of us are passionate about assembling motorcycles, others like to share the best recipe to bake bread, and some won’t stop talking about music festivals. The point is, we expect you to bring your passion to work.

What Reaktorians say:

“Reaktor is a place where you can fully be yourself, you are trusted and your thoughts matter. We make things together and we have fun while doing it. Also keeping things transparent and open creates trust and really allows the company to change quickly and do things differently, if needed.”

“Working in self-organized teams means you're tasked with plenty of flexibility and responsibility. Reaktor is a fertile environment for professional growth, and it's empowering to be part of a culture that celebrates you for taking initiative, not punishes you. Being surrounded by very talented people is a huge bonus, as you have unfettered access to their expertise.”

“Enormous freedom. From what's in the fridge to what you contribute. If you're looking to supercharge your growth jump on this rocket ship. There's literally a satellite project! Reaktor invests back into its employees. Fun gizmos and team activities are all around.”

“I get to make the mistakes I need to learn, and the company is always there to back me up.”

Where Reaktorians come from

The Amsterdam office has a unique vibe with a lively mix of 20 nationalities.

We provide relocation and visa support to new Reaktorians and make sure that they settle in Amsterdam as smoothly as possible. You can stay in a company apartment and get any help you need with registration, setting up a bank account, and getting your first bike. Also, your fellow colleagues will be happy to give advice on the best bitterballen in the neighbourhood.

We can help you with your application for the 30% ruling (if applicable) that allows people moving to the Netherlands to benefit from for up to 5 years.

Diversity

We know we still have a long way to go in making our environment as welcoming and inclusive as possible. For example, women represent only 27% of the Reaktor Amsterdam team.

Aiming to change the situation, we now have a DEI group helping us understand our biases and find ways to act on it. We actively participate in events supporting underrepresented groups in tech, conduct surveys among our employees, and try our best to treat everyone with respect and understanding in our day-to-day actions.

Wondering how you ended up on the XXX URL? 😄

It might not be what you’re thinking – XXX stands for the official flag of our favourite city Amsterdam.

There are a couple of theories what these X’s symbolise and apparently the most popular one – representing three dangers of Fire, Floods and the Black Death – is wrong. You can check the more historically grounded explanations here.
