Summary

Starting a new era of online commerce began with a bold idea: what if you could buy anything online, from any store, with a single familiar button that handles the full shopping flow behind the scenes? Together with Starcart, we turned that idea into reality.

As Starcart’s partner in product design and development, we helped the team shape their ecommerce vision – first as a consumer platform that made shopping simpler, then as a B2B technology powering the same magic behind the scenes. What started as a single marketplace evolved into an embedded layer of AI-driven automation that any website can use.

Rethinking how people shop online

Starcart set out to untangle the modern shopping experience. Instead of jumping between stores or having to authenticate or create logins in each one, users could browse, compare prices, and buy through a single interface. The system handled every step from payment to delivery tracking through a quiet network of AI agents working behind the curtain.

When we joined the journey, Starcart was mostly consumer-oriented. Our task was to help refine, expand, and improve the experience.

Together, we built a suite of new features that deepened engagement and streamlined operations:
→ price alerts
→ member-get-member referrals
→ shipment tracking
→ invoice payment
→ mobile app designed to boost retention

In addition, we developed a React native app to expand the consumer experience, bringing it from desktop to the mobile phone. It brought push notifications, native responsiveness, and full end-to-end test coverage through Detox, allowing the team to roll out a production-ready experience in just a month. It was the kind of rhythm we love: small teams, quick iterations, and design thinking fused with sharp engineering.

A pivot from platform to plug-in

By spring 2025, Starcart saw an opportunity to go deeper. The company pivoted from being an online destination to becoming a technology layer, a B2B platform that could power other ecommerce experiences.

We helped the team turn their consumer product into an embeddable “Buy for me” button – an invisible but powerful feature that lets any website tap into Starcart’s automation stack. Under the hood, that meant integrating Adyen for secure payments, refactoring systems for scalability, and experimenting with generative AI to handle complex checkout cases autonomously.

The pivot also brought new creative challenges: designing for invisibility, for handoffs between humans and algorithms, and for trust in automation. Through rapid prototyping and tight collaboration, we helped the team build both the tech foundation and a demo environment to showcase it to partners and investors.

What used to be a consumer product became an engine for a new kind of commerce. Quiet, efficient, and built to be shared.

Built for change, not just for launch

Starcart’s evolution reflects what happens when great ideas stay fluid. We built, tested, and shipped an idea that was dependable, robust, and convenient, so when the business shifted, these same foundations flexed into something new.

It’s a story about building not just products, but potential; about creating technology that can change direction without losing its spark. And for us, it’s another example of why we build alongside our clients rather than ahead of them: so that when the future tilts, the product tilts with it.
