The cities of Espoo, Oulu, Turku, Tampere, and the municipalities of the Tampere region have selected Reaktor as their development and maintenance partner for eVaka, Finland’s leading open-source early childhood education management system.

This renewed partnership ensures the long-term evolution and operational reliability of a solution that has become vital to the daily lives of families and professionals across Finland’s largest municipalities.

"High-quality early childhood education is a point of pride in Finland and a cornerstone of family well-being," says Pekka Horo, Reaktor’s CEO.

"eVaka proves that municipalities can successfully build critical digital services together on a national scale, driven by actual user needs."

A modern benchmark for public sector digitalization

eVaka is one of the most widely adopted open-source systems in the Finnish municipal sector. It has a weekly user base of tens of thousands and supports everything from daily tasks to enabling strategic management.

"Over the past eight years, eVaka has matured into a critical platform. It has been developed with an agile mindset to serve both families and educators. We are excited to continue this work and make eVaka an even more impactful part of the municipal digital landscape", says Silja Närhi, Vice President of Reaktor Public Sector.

Currently serving municipalities with a combined population of approximately 1.2 million residents, eVaka stands as a testament to the power of collaborative, open-source development in the public sector.

What eVaka does:

  • For families: Streamlines communication and daily coordination with daycare providers.
  • For professionals: Reduces administrative burden, allowing more focus on the children.
  • For municipalities: Provides real-time data to lead and improve early childhood education services.

Reaktor has been a core partner in eVaka’s journey since its inception, working across city borders to build a shared digital environment. This latest procurement, with an estimated total value of €15 million, solidifies the system's future growth and stability.
